Baptism & the washing away of sins

We believe that baptism is one of the most important decisions any Christian can make.  Since baptism is a work of what God does, not what mankind achieves, it plays a significant part in the salvation process.  It is a defining moment of discipleship and therefore is not to be taken lightly or rushed into (Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 2:38).  As Romans 6:1-11 teaches, an individual unites with Christ in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus in baptism (see also Colossians 2:9-14, and Titus 3:3-7).  Further, as the Apostle Paul wrote, “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me” (Galatians 2:20). We believe that baptism by immersion is the best biblical form of modality, and, therefore, it is the established practice of the church.
